BIO OF DEB KEANE
I have been volunteering with the pantry and M.O.R.E. since the year 2000 when I wanted to make a commitment to “actually see the faces of the needy”. I soon learned that my gift is in working directly with individuals and helping to meet their needs with a warm and caring heart. I especially love to hold the newborns.
At the M.O.R.E. Center, I coordinate the intake of clothing and household items, rotate the inventory, and attempt to match furniture donors with clients needing furniture (see Little Portion). It is a huge job that requires numerous volunteers, continuously folding and hanging clothes, as well as creatively displaying items.
I work three days a week as an office manager for Arlington Heights Park District and two days a week as Coordinator of Religious Education for St. Joseph’s Church in Harvard. I also clean homes part time. My husband, Michael, and I have grown children and grandchildren gracing our lives. I find my work at M.O.R.E. Center to be contagious, with my daughter, Loren, and granddaughter, Ella, age 3, volunteering their time. My “hero” Mother Theresa said “We can do no great things--only small things with love.”
